Hawsker (Trailways) to Whitby
Distance:
3.1miles, 5km
Description:
A short link along the rail trail between the cycle hire at Hawsker and the popular seaside town of Whitby. On route you cycle over the Esk river high up on a viaduct which seems far too grand for a cycle path but, of course, like the rest of the rail trail, it was originally designed for the railway.
TIME:
Allow 30 to 45 minutes
DIRECTIONS: HAWSKER (TRAILWAYS) TO WHITBY
Leave the Trailways cycle hire centre (located in a former station) and continue north along the rail trail, and eventually over a viaduct. About 600m after this point leave the trail and fork L, keep to the R and pass through a barrier. At road, turn R under bridge onto South End Gardens. At roundabout, go straight over into Whitby and the station.
DIRECTIONS: WHITBY TO HAWSKER (TRAILWAYS)
Turn L out of Whitby station and at roundabout go straight over and up South End Gardens. Pass under bridge and take the path immediately to the L going through the barrier and keep L up a track to turn R on to the rail trail and eventually over a viaduct. Continue along to the Trailways cycle hire centre at Hawsker.
